Frequently Asked Questions

Appointments

Do I need an appointment for an estimate?

We strongly recommend that you schedule an appointment to get an estimate, to make the process more efficient.

When can I book my car in for repairs?

Contact your local Dilawri Collision Centre to enquire about booking your car in for repairs today. Please note that considerations including the extent of the damages, whether the vehicle is safe to drive, and parts availability will all affect the timing of your repairs.

Can I book appointments for repairs and service at the same time?

Yes, if you contact your preferred Dilawri service department to advise them of the type of service you require, your local Dilawri collision centre can arrange to take your car in for servicing following any repairs.

Transportation

Do you offer courtesy/rental vehicles?

Some Dilawri Collision Centres offer courtesy/rental vehicles. Please contact your local Collision Centre for more information.

Do you have a shuttle service?

Some Dilawri Collision Centres offer a shuttle service that provides drop-off and pick-up. Contact your local Collision Centre for more details.

Services

Do you work on any type of vehicle?

Dilawri’s Collision Centres are equipped to repair nearly all makes and models. Exceptions include certain vintage or exotic models that are best handled by specialists. Please contact your local Dilawri Collision Centre for more information.

Please note that the Mercedes-Benz Collision Centre in Vancouver only repairs Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

Do you use manufacturer or aftermarket parts to repair customers’ vehicles?

Whenever possible, Dilawri Collision Centres use manufacturer parts. However, the age of your vehicle and the terms of your insurance policy may require that aftermarket parts are used instead.

Are your technicians licensed?

Yes, we employ journeyman technicians whose qualifications are kept up to date with ongoing training courses from the manufacturers.

Do you need the VIN to replace a part?

In general, our technicians do need a VIN to replace a part to ensure your car is repaired to the necessary standard.

How long will repairs take?

Repair times will vary according to parts availability and the extent of the damage.

When you drop off your car for the repairs, you will receive a timeline based on the initial estimate. If our technicians discover additional damages, the timeline may change. Throughout the process, Dilawri Collision Centre staff will keep you informed.

What does it mean that my vehicle is considered to be “totalled”?

The insurance industry typically considers a totalled vehicle to be one for which the cost of repairs exceeds the book purchase price. This is why, under some circumstances, an operational older vehicle might be considered totalled as a result of damage that appears to be moderate. Contact your insurance provider for more details.

Will my car look brand new after the repairs?

Your vehicle will be returned in its pre-accident condition. Please note that only the elements that were damaged in the collision and those additionally requested through the estimating and consultation process – will be repaired.

Can I count on a good colour match with my original paint?

To achieve the closest possible colour match with your original finish, our experienced teams use advanced, computer-aided colour-matching systems and the industry's finest polymer coatings.

How soon can I wash my car after the repair?

To give the finish time to cure and harden fully, in general we recommend that you avoid machine washing or waxing your vehicle for 30 days after it has been refinished, and that you protect your vehicle from harsh sunlight, acid rain, or any type of scrubbing or abrasive action.

Insurance & Warranty

What kind of warranty comes with the auto body repair work?

Contact your local Dilawri Collision Centre for information about available warranties.

Do I have to pay my deductible?

Please contact your local Dilawri Collision Centre for information about payment requirements.

I do not want to make an insurance claim. Will it be cheaper if I pay for repairs myself?

Dilawri Collision Centres offer the same rates to customers and insurance companies. If you choose to pay for repairs yourself rather than making an insurance claim, our staff will work with you to review the most affordable options.

Is your shop on my insurance company preferred list?

Dilawri Collision Centres have business relationships with a wide variety of insurance companies and automotive dealerships. To confirm whether your insurance company is among them, please contact your insurer directly.

What is betterment? Why do I have to pay betterment?

A betterment clause is a provision of automobile insurance policies that stipulates that the insurer will not pay for the net value of improvement if a repair or replacement of a damaged part will mean your vehicle is in better condition than it was in before a collision. Items that can be subject to a betterment charge include exhausts, batteries, and tires. Please contact your insurance company for more information.
