While it may not feel like the snowflakes are about to fall outside, it’s high time to get your winter tires in order so you’re fully prepared for the frozen season—it’ll be here before you know it.
Whether you drive an Acura or an Audi, a Land Rover or a Lamborghini, your vehicle’s safety is likely your top priority. And while it may not feel like the snowflakes are about to fall outside, weather on the West Coast (and the whole planet) is unpredictable these days. For safety’s sake, it’s high time to get your winter tires in order.
Most tires start to lose traction when the weather is around 7℃, and once things drop to 3℃ or below, their ability to grip anything, wet or dry, is seriously compromised. Winter tires are the solution to this problem.
Protect yourself, your family, and your friends this season by avoiding common hazards. We’re all familiar with transparent, extra-slippery black ice on the roads, but one condition that you may not have heard of is “greased ice”. In the Lower Mainland, this condition can occur in our temperate climate given our proximity to the ocean: moisture in the air can be affected by small temperature fluctuations just above and below freezing. This means that water on the road will thaw slightly, then freeze and rethaw, resulting in a thin layer of water on top of ice. Known as ‘greased ice’, this can be exceptionally dangerous for drivers.
But have no fear: winter tires are your solution here too.
